We are living in a sea of toxins and it is destroying our bodies and brains day by day.The two most important things you need to know to cure disease, create health, and lose weight are:
- The role of nutrition in health and disease.
- The role of toxins and the importance of detoxification in health and disease.
Detox diet?
Detox diets are generally short term changes in dietary habits which help in removing excess toxins present in the body.
What is toxic overload?
➡️A toxin includes synthetic chemicals, pollutants, heavy metals, exotoxins and endotoxins ( biological origin) , processed foods, added sugar, transfat, refined vegetable and seed oils that can negetively affect health.
➡️ Toxic overload is a heavy burden on your body. It interferes with fundamental organ and gland function. You may experience the following symptoms-
🔹sneezing or coughing fits,
🔹nasal congestion or runny nose,
🔹sore throat,
🔹diarrhoea,
🔹constipation,
🔹fatigue ,
🔹low energy level,
🔹smelling body odours ( unusual one) ,
🔹aches and pains in body,
🔹skin problems,
🔹digestive problems ,
🔹acidity,
🔹acid reflux,
🔹 premenstrual problems,
🔹other menstrual disorders,
🔹unsual weight gain or loss,
🔹 sleeping problems.
It may lead to kidney and liver damge too.
➡️Toxins may lead to hepatotoxicity. Toxic hepatitis can be caused by drugs and chemicals, alcohol , and some health supplements etc. Sometimes it leads to parmanant liver damage or cirrhosis of liver.
Detox Diet

Detox diet plans are made with the aim of flushing out toxins from our body. But, we love to stick with junk foods always.. gradually there comes a point when our body no longer copes up with it and we start experiencing the load of toxins in our body as I mentioned above.
The detox diet plan involves going through a period of fasting by giving rest to our digestive system. Fasting here doesn’t mean that we have starve, it simply means eating less and consuming food which would help to increase our metabolism process. It’s objective also includes the improvement of circulation and purification of blood.
What to eat??
Start your day with a glass Luke warm lemon water ( without sugar or honey). You can add ginger too. This reduces bloating. It immediately cleanses the body by acting as a laxative and prepares the body for further meal.
There are a variety of detox diet plans.
Liquid Detox : it includes consuming only juices for all the meals and eliminating everything else.
Fruit flush diet: this involves eating only raw fruit ( fruitarianism) with a sprinkling of nuts and seeds thrown in. Fruits that are rich in vitamins and fibres. Fibres are water soluble and hold a good amount of water thus acting as a laxative. Like papayas, pineapples, apples, berries, bananas, oranges ,grapes, pomegranates, etc.

But this fruitarianism should not continue for a longer period as they don’t have adequate levels of vitamin B12, calcium, zinc , vit D, Omega -3 fatty acids which can lead to serious health issues. It can also be dangerous for people with diabetes or prediabetes because eating such large quantities of fruit can raise blood sugar levels and affect insulin sensitivity. Only fruit-based diet can also be dangerous for people with pancreatic and kidney disorders. It contains high levels of potassium in it
Vegetables: onions and garlic are good for liver and heart. They purify the blood too. Cruciferous veggies like broccoli, kale , cabbage , ferns, cauliflower, salad patta or lettuce , bok choy, parsley etc can work wonders as they are easy to digest and are a storehouse macro and micronutrients.

Whole grains : Grains are not usually the food of choice for a detox diet. However, if you need higher levels of energy , then you can go for multigrain atta roti or whole grain bread. But be careful for it’s limit. Keel its proportion to minimal.

Water: It the most important component. It speeds up the elimination process of toxins from our body. It maintains the body temperature and other bodily functions. 8 ounce glasses or 2 liters per day

A healthy way of drinking water:
Some people find it very dull or distasteful to drink water. A fun way to more into drinking it is by spicing it up! Add some fruits to it. Berries are excellent antioxidants, and they add a little extra wow to your water’s flavor. Cucumber and oranges add a refreshing twist to it. Add some mint leaves and give a lemony flavor to it if needed.
Green tea : Regularly drinking green tea can help you lose weight and reduce your risk of several diseases, including diabetes, heart disease and cancer. You can have 3-5 cups of green tea everyday. Addition of ginger and lemon gives a beautiful aroma and flavor to it and it also increases metabolism , reduces inflammation, relieving nausea etc.

During a detox, you’re trying to give your body a break so it can heal itself. If it’s constantly being occupied with digestion, which takes a lot of energy, your body will put the deep cleaning process on hold.
Common side effects of detoxifying include: headaches, bad moods, get a cold, feel tired or breakout. Don’t worry; this is a sign your body is working and releasing toxins. Make sure you drink enough water to ease the detox symptoms.
What to avoid?
The Detox Plan eliminates:
- Meat
- Dairy
- Processed foods
- Caffeine
- Sugar
- Salt
- Oils
- Additives & Fillers
- White bread and wheat are high in gluten which irritates the gut and might also spike up the blood glucose levels.
So nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels.
